Chicago Style Workout 57: Capitalization, Part 1

Road sign pointing to Utopia

A Capital Idea

This month’s quiz focuses on proper nouns and the terms derived from and associated with them, including adjectives. Proper nouns are generally capitalized, whereas the related terms may or may not be, depending on context and meaning.

Most of the terms in this quiz can be found in CMOS in chapter 8 (on names, terms, and titles of works). Chapter 8 covers a lot of categories, so we’ll plan on returning to this subject in a future workout.

Note: Style guides and dictionaries sometimes disagree. This quiz is designed to test your knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition.
