The Chicago Manual of Style at work (Or, why you might need a style guide)

If your company produces any kind of writing, there’s a good chance you can benefit from using a style guide—even if you’re not in a field immediately associated with publishing. The best practice for any company is for everyone to use the same guide for spelling, punctuation, and a multitude of other style matters. When everyone is on the same page, company documents and publications can be prepared more efficiently, consistently, and professionally.

With that in mind, we’d like to announce some new Shop Talk pages devoted to helping corporations, nonprofits, and small businesses evaluate and use the Manual. If you already do, we have an overview of using The Chicago Manual of Style Online with your house style guide. If you’re curious about whether your company would benefit from a subscription to CMOS Online, this brief survey is designed for you.

We’ll be adding to these pages over time, but here are a few to start. (You can also find these pages in the top menu under “For Companies.”)

We won’t go on and on about it here. Instead, we’ll let some of our company subscribers speak for themselves.
